This phone is nothing to write home about. The speaker phone volume and the answering machine volume are controlled together.
You are unable to turn off the answering machine volume and have the speaker phone volume up.
The phone itself is light and difficult to rest on your shoulder while in use.
I can't direct dial numbers from my phone book with numbers that have area codes. I have to re-enter the numbers into my phone book prefacing the numbers with a 1.
This is ridiculous!!!...It goes on and on and on.

So, I went and purchased the DECT 2185-2 after much research online and at local stores (Costco/Walmart/Target). I have to say upfront, that maybe I am just a complete idiot. I have had two prior Uniden cordless phone systems over the past 6 years and have been very happy with the quality and usability of their products.
I received my DECT 2185-2 in the mail and was super excited to get it setup. The Uniden that I am replacing is only holding a battery charge for about 1.5 hrs, so getting a new set that will be good for 15 hrs + is a GOOD thing ;-) I get the new system all setup, and begin to go through the handset config. I realize that the handset's do not have a headset jack (2.5 or 3.5)!!!??? WTF? I guess I should have realized that as I was unboxing the unit and it didn't come with any holster clips!!! I find it hard to believe that Uniden would offer a cordless phone (here in 2010) that doesn't have a headset jack OR a holster clip.
Where me being an idiot comes in - I didn't even think to look at the spec's on the phone when I was researching to confirm if it had a jack/holster. My last two Uniden phone systems (purchased 6 years ago), BOTH have these features....UNBELIEVABLE.
Anyway, I have returned the DECT 2185-2 to Amazon. I still want to purchase a Uniden system, as I am familiar with them and know they are typically great quality. I will probably just shop local so that I can physically determine that the system I buy, has the phone jack/holster features.

The base unit mic isnt as good as the folks you talk to cant seem to hear you very clearly even you speak from a foot away from the mic.
